![]() Unfortunately, some users face issues where their home-away assist does not work properly. So, be sure to invest some dollars here to benefit from its range of features. And the rest do not seem to be designed to work with a house with two heating zones, you can use TRV heads and have 6 zones, but only EPH and Drayton seem to have designed a system using standard zone valves, which are simply open or closed, which is not surprising as the whole gas heating system is analogue, so not designed to work with on/off valves.Even if you’re unsure about the situation with the HVAC unit, keeping track of the power bill will become easier when using the Nest thermostat. ![]() ![]() Please tell me I am wrong, as I think this is silly, but as far as I can work out only the EPH thermostats will work with master/slave mode allowing more than one thermostat to control a boiler using opentherm, and they will not connect to any TRV heads.ĭrayton do a three zone controller, but it is simple on/off not opentherm. I have Nest Gen 3 and it has done most of what I wanted, but using a single thermostat is looking for problems, since I am not using OpenTherm I can have as many thermostats in parallel as I want, I actually have two, but with gas boilers your looking at modulating and condensing so looking at either the TRV doing the controlling or OpenTherm. But me bike instead of my bike, it does not distract from the understanding. "Beware of the man eating haggis." and incorrect meaning "the work force was decimated." when far more than 1/10 was got rid of. P.S It's also an infringement on our wonderful language by using 'your' instead of 'you're'.ĭoes it matter? OK you want to avoid ambiguity. Hash tag maybe spend your time more wisely hash tag grow the f*ck up So, have you never owned an iPhone? Something that will cost you over £1000 to do the same as a phone that costs a couple of hundred pounds, but an item that gets hyped up due to Apples incredible marketing prowess. If the nest thermostat is so terrible how about a recommendation? No, obviously not, sharing viable information wouldn't not be in your best interests when there's people out there that need to be belittled. So, do you get your kicks from trawling through Internet forums to spewing your rubbish. So, firstly I didn’t ask for your advice on which system to buy, I asked for a simple solution to a question regarding wiring. So, Thank you for taking time out of your day to demonstrate your exceptional grasp of the English language. The problem is some boiler manufacturers put the boiler connections inside a gas tight box, so the connection box we are told needs testing once opened, however I have looked and can't see any test points so suspect it is not actually tested.Ĭlick to expand. So you're going to receive the acknowledgement that you so desperately seek. But end of the day all the wall thermostat does is tell boiler when to run, the TRV sets room temperature, and with old house using a modulating gas boiler did not need any cleaver wall thermostat it was the programmable TRV heads that did all the work, idea is boiler does not turn off until either a scheduled change in temperature, or it is running at minimum output, so either the wall thermostat is connected with opentherm, or it is carefully balanced with the TRV, as each time the boiler turns off, any heat in boiler is lost up the flue, so needs to be at minimum output before it turns off. Mine is in the hall which is not ideal as heat goes up stairs so tends to over shoot. With the 0 - 48 volt link with opentherm where the Nest thermostat is located is important, but how important is hard to say, as it allows you to select locations so I assume the algorithms are trimmed to suit the location. Since on/off control better linking would not help very much anyway. It also works with geofencing but that was not why I got it, but if has failed to link to the Energenie MiHome TRV heads as it should have done, so they simply have the same schedule set, they are not linked. Yes Nest Gen 3 works well for me with an oil fired non modulating boiler, but not perfect, it did what I wanted so the suspect wiring between flat and main house with only two core and earth could supply thermostat with power, transmit signal from thermostat, and allow control of domestic hot water and central heating with two wires. Click to expand. No it does not, at least not in the UK it uses extra low voltage better to say 12 volt although not sure it may also work on 5 volt.
